The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Its Post-Credits Scenes
The question of whether The Fantastic Four: First Steps has a post-credits scene is akin to asking Pedro Pascal if he’s open to joining more franchises. The answer is an unequivocal “yes.” This latest reboot of the Fantastic Four IP, which marks the fourth feature film in the series (fifth if including the unreleased Roger Corman film), carries significant weight. Not only is it the third MCU film released this year, following Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts, both of which were financial disappointments, but it also comes at a time when Superman is dominating the box office. Additionally, First Steps is the final MCU film before the highly anticipated events of Avengers: Doomsday.
With Doomsday set to bring Robert Downey Jr. back as Iron Man, the arch-nemesis of Marvel’s First Family, fans are eager for hints about the future. While we won’t delve into spoilers here, especially since The Fantastic Four: First Steps is one of the most anticipated films of the summer, we can share how many end-credits scenes the movie includes and whether they’re worth watching.
Are the End-Credits Scenes Essential Viewing?
Previous MCU entries, such as Thunderbolts, have featured two end-credits sequences. The first was a lighthearted comedic scene, while the second directly set up upcoming events. The Fantastic Four: First Steps follows a similar structure with two distinct post-credits scenes, but with a twist. Instead of starting with a comedic sequence and ending with a significant one, the order is reversed.
The first post-credits scene is essential viewing for fans, offering the clearest glimpse yet into where Marvel’s cinematic universe is headed. The second scene is more of a courtesy, leaning into humor, but it’s still worth sticking around for. It’s packed with Easter eggs and references that dedicated fans will appreciate. Even the credits themselves include a tribute to a key figure from Marvel’s history.
What Is The Fantastic Four: First Steps About?
Set in a completely different dimension from the mainline MCU, this film features a retrofuturistic 1960s aesthetic. A group of four astronauts gains extraordinary abilities during their inaugural trip through Earth's stars. The characters include Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn), and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). For years, these heroes have protected New York City and the globe. However, their mission becomes far more complicated when the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner) arrives on their planet.
The Surfer heralds the arrival of Galactus (Ralph Ineson), a cosmic entity of immense power who feeds on planets to survive. With no Avengers, Thunderbolts, or Guardians of the Galaxy to defend them, the Fantastic Four may be their world's only hope for survival.
Will The Fantastic Four: First Steps Get a Sequel?
Marvel likely anticipated the success of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, as news of a direct sequel broke in June 2025. However, this doesn’t always mean the sequel is fully greenlit. We probably won’t know for sure until it’s officially announced. A previous example is Shang-Chi: The Legend of the Ten Rings, which had a sequel announced early on, but updates have been scarce.
Even if a direct sequel isn’t confirmed, the team is set to return soon. This wasn’t a surprise, as it was announced before Thunderbolts’ May release. All four members of the team are confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, where they’ll join forces with the Avengers and the X-Men. Whether they’ll also be part of Avengers: Secret Wars remains uncertain, but given their history with Victor Von Doom, it’s hard to imagine they won’t play a pivotal role in the Multiverse Saga’s final battle.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is set to hit theaters on Friday, July 25, 2025.
