What to Expect
Netflix describes the series as a "faithful, classic retelling" of 'Pride and Prejudice'. The aim is to capture the essence of Austen's story while also appealing to a new generation of viewers.
Dolly Alderton has expressed her excitement about the project, stating that she feels "very lucky" to be part of retelling this "wonderful story". She sees 'Pride and Prejudice' as "the blueprint for romantic comedy" and is keen to find "both familiar and fresh ways" to bring the beloved book to life. She added she's excited to reintroduce these "hilarious and complicated characters".
Netflix's Mona Qureshi echoed this sentiment, saying they are "delighted to be sharing this beloved British classic with our global audience". She believes that Dolly Alderton's "fierce intelligence and enormous heart" make her the perfect person to "bring new insights" to the story while celebrating what fans already love.
Emma Corrin is equally enthusiastic about playing Elizabeth Bennet, describing it as a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity". They said being able to bring this iconic character to life alongside Olivia Colman and Jack Lowden, with Dolly's phenomenal scripts, is truly the greatest honour.
Anticipated Release and Other Adaptations
While a trailer is still some time away, and there's no confirmed release date as yet, it is anticipated that the series will be available to stream in 2026, as production is scheduled to commence this year.
'Pride and Prejudice' has been adapted numerous times for both television and film. Notable adaptations include the BBC's acclaimed 1995 series starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle, and the 2005 film featuring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen. Netflix previously tackled another Austen novel with their 2022 adaptation of 'Persuasion', starring Dakota Johnson.
More Austen on the Horizon
For those craving more Austen-inspired content, the BBC is also developing an adaptation of Janice Hadlow's novel 'The Other Bennet Sister', focusing on the character of Mary Bennet.
In the meantime, the 2005 film adaptation of 'Pride and Prejudice' is currently available to watch on Netflix UK.
